Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef 85% lean
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ head green cabbage chopped (about 4 cups)
  • 1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste optional, for richness
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes optional for heat
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella optional topping

Method
 

  1. Brown the Beef:
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula (about 5–7 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add Aromatics:
  4. Stir in diced onion and garlic. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 2–3 minutes.
  5. Add Cabbage and Seasonings:
  6. Add the chopped cabbage, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  7. Simmer:
  8. Cover and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors meld together.
  9. Optional Topping:
  10. Sprinkle cheese over the top and let it melt for 1–2 minutes before serving.
